RB Residence
Idaho Springs, CO | Unbuilt Concept
Designed for a life attuned to the rhythms of Colorado’s four seasons, this modest retreat embodies a rustic yet refined simplicity, offering only the essentials for a slow, contemplative existence within a remote alpine environment.
Nestled deep within the forested foothills on the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains, the home rests on a steep slope, commanding a view over a profound tree filled valley. The architecture is divided into two parts: the lower level, a sanctuary of private spaces, is embedded within the hillside… while the upper level—where the public functions unfold—cantilevers above.
A restrained material palette speaks to the earthiness of concrete, anchoring the structure to the land, while expansive glass openings introduce a lightness, framing sweeping views of the tranquil mountain landscape.
