River House
Aspen, Colorado | Unbuilt Concept
Designed as a haven for a family attuned to the serene solitude of nature and the conviviality of shared moments with friends and family, this retreat harmoniously integrates into the riverbank, seamlessly extending the natural terrain adorned with large granite boulders. The expression of the minimalist building form serves as a reference point in the mountain landscape, inspired by and evoking the monumental simplicity reminiscent of Richard Serra's sculptural forms.
Manifesting a materiality of enduring resonance, the robust mass walls of weathered wood and blackened steel promise a gradual transformation through natural oxidation, envisaging a future where the edifice quietly melds into the forested expanse. Strategically oriented, expansive glass fenestrations align parallel to the river's sinuous course, purposefully framing distant panoramas and orchestrating an immersive auditory symphony of flowing waters and rustling leaves.
