Perched upon a steep West Vail ridge at an elevation of 8120 feet, this family retreat artfully embraces the panoramic spectacle unfolding before it – an east to west tapestry of the Gore Range, Vail Ski Resort and Beaver Creek. Our design prompt involves a meticulous transformation of both the exterior facades and the interior spaces of the existing 5,780-square-foot dwelling, complemented by a thoughtful 1000-square-foot addition.
For this unique project we embark on a journey of refinement, where volumetric proportion and material clarity guide our decisions. The exterior façade undergoes a profound metamorphosis, shedding embellishments in favor of a restrained elegance with increased glass openings that allows the surrounding mountain splendor to take center stage. A choreography of clean lines and unadorned natural surfaces harmonizes with the rugged beauty of the ridge, forging a dialogue between the built environment and the untamed terrain.
Within the interior, a similar discipline governs the spatial narrative. Uninterrupted sightlines and a restrained palette guide occupants through a choreographed sequence of spaces, each framing a distinct vista of the mountainous panorama.
